These students, who attend medical schools across the United States, share a common goal of returning home and practicing medicine in Riverside County once their training is complete. Their commitment reflects a dedication to closing the physician shortage gap and strengthening local healthcare for years to come. This year’s scholarship recipients are: Danny Abdalnour, Carter Coggins, Adam Dew, Charles Lai, Pamela Munoz, Jonathan Ogbogu, Ruchira Puri, John Rey, Arya Sherafat, Emily Silvis, Michelle Song, Joanna Sung, and Ideen Tayebi. As Riverside County continues to face a physician shortage, the financial burden of medical education, averaging more than $60,000 per year, remains a major obstacle for aspiring doctors. RCMA’s Medical Scholarship Program helps ease this challenge by supporting local students who are committed to returning and serving the community. The success of this year’s fundraiser was made possible through the generous support of local healthcare and community partners, including ProAssurance, California University of Science & Medicine, Eisenhower Medical Center, Inland Empire Foundation for Medical Care, Inland Empire Health Plan, Kaiser Permanente – Riverside, Loma Linda University School of Medicine, Parkview Community Hospital, the Medical Staff of Riverside Community Hospital, Desert Orthopedic Center, Riverside University Health System, UC Riverside School of Medicine, Desert Healthcare District & Foundation, Riverside Medical Clinic, UHS SoCal MEC, and Bank of America. Since 2012, RCMA has awarded $610,500 in scholarships to 168 local medical students. In 2019, the program expanded to include loan assistance for early-career physicians currently practicing in Riverside County, with 15 local doctors receiving support today. RCMA’s Annual Scholarship Fundraiser continues to be a powerful example of how physicians, healthcare institutions, and community partners can come together to invest in the future of local medicine.
